A focus on the needs of women in super has been recognised by the industry, as Corboy takes out the annual award.

HESTA's chief executive Anne-Marie Corboy has won the seventh Fund Executive Association Limited (FEAL) fund executive of the year award.

Corboy was honoured because of her contribution to superannuation, including her leadership in addressing the superannuation needs of women. HESTA's membership is 84 per cent women.

"Ms Corboy has recognised the specific needs of many of her members, many of whom work part-time or have lower balances as a result of having taken time out of the work force," AMP Capital Investors business director Brian Delaney said.

"She has responded to the needs of these members by introducing specific education programs to promote the benefits of co-contributions, and also lobbied for measures to further increase women's retirement incomes," he said.

The annual award recognises the achievements of fund executives in the industry and the assistance they provide to professional development through education.

"I was very honoured and flattered to be considered for this award. It is, however, a tribute to the fantastic work of the HESTA team and great strategic leadership from the HESTA board," Corboy said.

This is the second time this year a HESTA executive has received an award. In March HESTA chair Beth Mohle was named Trustee of the Year at the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds.
