The Future Fund's hiring frenzy goes on, with the appointment of an infrastructure specialist.

The Future Fund has hired Raphael Arndt from Hastings Funds Management to beef up its infrastructure expertise.

Arndt, who will report to the head of private markets Gary Gabriel, will manage the fund's infrastructure and timberland investments.

He has a background in engineering and began his career with engineering firm Ove Arup & Partners in Melbourne and London.

He also completed a PhD on infrastructure investment at Melbourne University and has advised the Victorian treasury on a series of infrastructure projects.

"His academic and investment background means that he brings both deep understanding and practical experience of infrastructure and timberland related investments," Future Fund chief investment officer David Neal said.

Arndt's appointment is the second this month for the Future Fund and the seventh this year.

It appointed Mitchell Stack from Western Asset Management as investment director for fixed income and alternatives two weeks ago.

In June it hired David Neal from Watson Wyatt as chief investment officer. His appointment was followed by a flurry of signings.

Campbell McCulloch from Vanguard and Ilana Wald from BNP Paribas joined its investment operations team in August and last month it appointed private equity specialist Steve Byrom.

His appointment came after the fund had hired Gabriel in October from Unisuper to head up its private markets division.
