The industry body has recognised the contribution of Care Super's John Burge.

Care Super board director John Burge has won the Trustee of the Year Award for 2007.

The award was announced yesterday at the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds.

Care Super chair Michael O'Sullivan said Burge was the board member's board member who knows what adds value to fund members.

"John's contribution to the industry has been valuable. He has brought both this wisdom and capacity to the role of board member," Australian Council of Superannuation Investors chief executive Phil Spathis said.

"In the spirit of Terry Roosevelt, he walks softly but carries a big stick," Spathis said.

Burge was chair of Finsuper prior to its merger with Superannuation Trust of Australia in 2005.

He was also independent director on the board of Hostplus from 2003 to 2006.

"I would like to thank all members of my team including my fellow colleagues on the various boards that I served. We were all part of a management team that worked very well," Burge said.
