Investment manager has secured a new country head to grow its Australian business.

Scottish investment manager Martin Currie has hired Kimon Kouryialas as country head for Australia.

Kouryialas previously worked at Legg Mason as head of distribution. He has also worked at National Custodian Services as marketing head before moving into funds management in 2002 with Citigroup Asset Mangement.

In January Martin Currie signalled that it would enter the Australian market.

In early May, the firm signed up trustee company Equity Trustees to act as the responsible entity for the firm's Global Alpha Fund.

The Edinburgh-based firm manages $28.2 billion in funds under management and its products include active equity, hedge funds and emerging market funds.
