Industry superannuation fund AustralianSuper has established a business development team for its new Sydney office as part of the fund's strategy to build its corporate superannuation business.
The team is made up of former employees of the retail sector.
The group is led by state manager for business development Susan Alexander. Alexander previously worked at MetLife Insurance and Westpac.
The other three staff members are Tim Berkman, Natalie Humphries and Aleisha Gauld.
The team was targeting employers and had already achieved success, AustralianSuper general manger of growth and opportunities Paul Schroder said.
"Our team has been really focused on outbound communication with employers. By providing employers with comparisons between AustralianSuper and retail superannuation funds we have been able to get significant interest from these groups," Schroder said.
The fund grew its corporate superannuation business by over 50 per cent during the 2010 financial year.
The business division now has 34,950 members and $1.9 billion in funds under management.
AustralianSuper was now embarking on a strategy to increase the size of the fund, Schroder said.
"We believe that size will be critical in the future. Achieving scale allows us to deliver significant value to our members," he said.
