UBS Global Asset Management (UBSGAM) has made a start on filling the gaps left by an exodus of staff from its Australian equities division in the past 18 months.

UBS Global Asset Management (UBSGAM) has made a start on filling the gaps left by an exodus of staff from its Australian equities division in the past 18 months.

It has hired former Allianz RCM Global Investors analyst Johan Snyman to cover the transport and retail sectors.

Snyman will also help manage the Australian equities portfolio alongside its new chief, Simon Shields.

Shields joined UBSGAM in May to replace former Australian equities head Paul Fiani, who left to form his own boutique, Integrity Investment Management.

Fiani took with him UBSGAM portfolio manager Shawn Burns, head of research John Moran, analyst Marcus Truman and operations chief Karen Thomson.

Snyman's background includes stints in credit analysis and insolvency accounting with ANZ and Ernst and Young.

Most recently, he worked at BNP Paribas Equities and Allianz RCM Global Investors.
