Hedge fund AR Capital has hired Craig Temby to support its fundamental analysis.

Absolute return fund manager AR Capital has appointed Craig Temby as executive director of the AR Capital Ascot Fund.

Temby will start next month and will be responsible for providing fundamental analysis of resources and industrial stocks in the ASX 300 index.

He comes from Thorney Investments, an investment vehicle associated with paper and packing magnate Richard Pratt's family.

He also had a stint with hedge fund Ceres Capital and was resources analyst at Goldman Sachs in Melbourne and New York and with Fidelity Investments in London.

Temby has been hired to enhance the research depth of the team, AR Capital managing director Craig Connelly said.

"Craig and I will be responsible for the fundamental research component of our investment process, which seeks to combine fundamental views with technical signals in an attempt to generate consistent returns for investors," Connelly said.

AR Capital, which is part of the Treasury Group stable of boutique fund managers, celebrates its five year anniversary of its Ascot Fund.

The fund has achieved a compound annual net return of 11.9 per cent, compared to 0.5 per cent of its benchmark the S&P/ASX 200 index, since the inception of the fund on 1 August 2005.
