Legg Mason affiliate Western Asset Management has hired a senior portfolio manager.

Legg Mason-affiliated fixed income manager Western Asset Management has appointed Christopher Orndorff as senior portfolio manager.

Orndorff, who joined last month, has become a member of Western Asset's United States broad markets committee, which is responsible for setting macro-economic strategies across its US portfolios.

He joined Western Asset from Payden & Rygel, where he worked for almost 20 years.

In his most recent position, Orndorff was managing principal and a member of the executive committee.

Western Asset also hired former BNY Mellon executive vice president Louis DiFranco as head of insurance services.

DiFranco worked at BNY Mellon for 11 years, and was responsible for the insurance, investment management and alternative fund client practices.

Powell Thurston has been appointed as head of advisory services. He comes from PIMCO, where he built the firm's advisory business.
