Orbis analyst to start small-cap firm

An Orbis Australia analyst has left the firm to set up a small-cap fund.

Orbis Australia analyst Brett Rock has departed the firm to establish his own small companies investment fund.

"He is leaving to start his own investment fund in small caps only. The size of stocks he really wanted to invest in was just too small for us," Orbis Australia managing director Simon Marais said.

"Pity, because I think he is a good guy."

Rock joined Orbis Australia in August 2005 as an analyst.

Prior to joining Orbis, he worked with Rand Merchant Bank in South Afica from 1999 to 2005 as a structured finance dealmaker and credit analyst.

Marais said the firm would look for a replacement for Rock.

"We are in the market for someone new, but we are in no hurry as we just hired a new analyst a few months ago," he said.
