Aviva Investors has hired former Goodman Group fund manager Matthew Woodman.

Asset manager Aviva Investors has hired former Goodman Group fund manager Matthew Woodman as senior fund manager in its global real estate team.

Woodman, who will be based in Sydney, will take the lead on a new fund, the Australian Logistics Fund, which will be launched later this year.

He will also be responsible for growing the real estate team in Australia and his appointment should be seen as expanding the firm's direct real estate investment business in Australia.

"Hiring individuals of Matthew's calibre is a reflection of our desire to expand our market share and build out our client offering in real estate," Aviva Investors Asia-Pacific real estate chief executive Ian Hally said.

"Australia is an important investment destination for our mandates. In addition, we look forward to building long-term relationships with Australian clients as they look to invest in real estate markets beyond Australia."

Woodman will report to Aviva Investors Asia-Pacific real estate head of fund management Daniel McDonald.

He spent nine years at Goodman Group and his role there included that of director of the Goodman Hong Kong Logistics Fund, based in Hong Kong.
