Perpetual has hired former St George Victoria state head Gary Jeffs.

Perpetual Private Wealth has appointed Gary Jeffs as state manager for Victoria.

Jeffs comes from St George, where he was state head for Victoria, and will lead a team of 40 staff.

The appointment was part of a deliberate effort by the business to build a stronger presence in Victoria and take full advantage of the capabilities added to Perpetual Private Wealth's services range via the acquisition of Melbourne-based Fordham Business Advisors last year, Perpetual said.

"We have been clear ourselves about our ambitions in terms of both of these objectives, so we are confident Gary will be able to make an immediate contribution to our efforts," Perpetual Private Client Advice general manager Nick Langton said.

Jeffs has also worked as Commonwealth Bank Private Bank Victoria and Queensland general manager.

He starts in his new job next month and will be based in Melbourne.
