EISS appoints new chief executive

EISS has appointed a new chief executive.

The Energy Industries Superannuation Scheme (EISS) has appointed Alex Hutchison as its new chief executive.

Hutchison will succeed current chief executive Richard Powis, who will step down from his role at the end of June.

"Yes, they have appointed a new CEO and he will start in two to three weeks' time," Powis told Investor Weekly.

Hutchison was managing director of MMC Contrarian, and became chief executive of MMC's wealth management and advice business, with responsibility for ComCorp and ClearView, after MMC acquired Bupa Australia's life insurance business in 2010.

His previous roles also include wealth management chief executive for Australian Wealth Management and its financial planning subsidiary, Bridges Financial Services.

He holds various non-executive directorships, including at SGE Credit Union, Argyle Lawyers and Mutual Legal.

EISS chairman Mick Doust did not want to confirm the appointment, saying it was too early in the process to make any announcements.

Hutchison joins the super fund amid uncertainty over its future.

The New South Wales Auditor-General's office flagged at the end of last year that the fund might have to merge with State Super and First State Super to ensure an efficient structure for its members.

NSW Treasurer Mike Baird is still reviewing the fund's future.
