BT Financial Group has promoted Mark Smith to Westpac/BT insurance general manager, a move prompted by the retirement of 20-year company veteran Tony Rodgers.

BT Financial Group has promoted Mark Smith to Westpac/BT insurance general manager, a move prompted by the retirement of 20-year company veteran Tony Rodgers.

Smith, currently head of life insurance, will step up to replace Rodgers in December to oversee life and general insurance.

"Under Mark's leadership our life insurance business has undergone a marked rejuvenation to establish itself as a leading provider in the risk market," BT Financial Group chief executive Rob Coombe said.

Smith will aim to improve cross-selling opportunities across Westpac to underpin the continued growth of the business.
Appointed head of life insurance in October 2005, he was formerly head of wrap and BT Funds Management New Zealand chief executive.
He joined BT Financial Group in 1993.
