Industry fund Media Super has joined 17 other industry funds and seven group insurers in partnership with SuperFriend, the Industry Funds Forum Mental Health Foundation.

SuperFriend, a not-for-profit group that looks to promote mental health and wellbeing with members and employers, is a national initiative funded by the group insurers that conducts research in collaboration with insurers and looks to develop targeted initiatives for workplace mental health that will benefit the fund members.

SuperFriend says its mission is to “reduce the incidence of suicide and the impact of mental illness on individuals, employers, workplaces, friends and families.”

The group collaborates not just with industry funds and insurers, but other organisations such as mental health service providers, in order to improve the flow of information and develop initiatives and referral pathways for industry fund members, employers and staff.

Media Super chief executive Graeme Russell described SuperFriend as “an important industry initiative that helps raise awareness of the impact that mental health issues and suicide has in the community.”

SuperFriend chief executive Margo Lydon welcomed Media Super as the group’s 18th industry fund partner.

“It is through the collective and ongoing support by our partners, that demonstrates considerable commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing for the many members and employers that they represent,” Ms Lydon said.

Media Super has over 110,000 members and 14,000 employers.
