Current deputy chief executive officer, Graham Hodges, has been named as the acting chief financial officer at ANZ, effective from 1 January 2016.
Mr Hodges will be responsible for all areas of finance, group strategy, legal, treasury, investor relations and mergers and acquisitions, an ANZ statement said.
According to the statement, Mr Hodges has served as ANZ's deputy chief executive officer since May 2009. He has held numerous roles at ANZ since joining the company in 1991, including as chief executive of ANZ New Zealand and group managing director, corporate.
ANZ said the search process for Mr Elliott's permanent replacement is underway, and is expected to be completed in the new year.
