MLC chief investment officer Jonathan Armitage said Mr Woods will be responsible for managing the MLC Inflation Plus and MLC Horizons portfolios.
"He will play key roles in the evolution of strategies, the implementation and development of our Investment Futures Framework process, as well as be involved in the management of multi-asset portfolios," Mr Armitage said.
Mr Woods makes the move from CLSA, where he was a micro-strategy analyst and responsible for equity strategy in Australia.
Prior to that, he was part of the Asia equity strategy team at Macquarie Securities in Hong Kong.
Mr Woods will commence in his new role at MLC on 20 June 2016.
