In the new role, Mr Newton will work with IFM Investors' investment teams to develop their responsible investment strategies and clients concerning environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
Mr Newton joins IFM Investors from Australia Post, where he was head of social innovation and development.
IFM Investors chief executive Brett Himbury said Mr Newton will be "integral" in providing leadership on ESG within the firm.
"We’re looking forward to Chris applying his deep understanding of finance, capital markets, public policy development and corporate responsibility to drive enhanced ESG outcomes for our shareholders and stakeholders," Mr Himbury said.
Mr Newton will commence his new role on 22 June 2016, reporting to chief commercial officer Josh Lim.
