The organisation has appointed Karen Volpato as senior policy adviser and moved former AIST project director David Haynes to executive manager, policy and research.
Recently appointed AIST chief executive Tom Garcia said the new appointments would “help ensure that the policy settings around super were in the best interests of the members of not-for-profit funds, the industry and the broader community”.
The policy team’s key objective for the remainder of the year is to help funds implement the Stronger Super reforms.
The team will also have a focus on continuing AIST’s active role in stakeholder discussions on retirement solutions and the sustainability of the superannuation system.
Mr Haynes has been at AIST as a project director since 2010 and is a former head of Industry Fund Services and AUSfund.
Ms Volpato is a former member of AIST’s policy committee and for the past 12 years has been at First State Super as a marketing manager.
“David’s passion, knowledge and grasp of super policy are highly regarded by all who have worked for him over the years,” Mr Garcia said.
“Similarly, Ms Volpato’s expertise in policy, research and marketing will be an invaluable, addition to AIST.”
As a result of her new role, Ms Volpato has forfeited her scholarship place in the AIST/Women in Super Springboard program, with the placement since being awarded to Cathy Doyle from BNP Paribas.
