Matthew Davison will hold the position of senior research analyst for the financials sector, reporting to chief investment officer Reece Birtles.
“Matthew is a highly regarded industry analyst and he brings to Legg Mason a deep understanding of financial stocks that will directly benefit our research and portfolio construction capabilities,” Mr Birtles said.
“With recent growth in our business we are pleased to be in a position to grow the team and bring deeper insights to client portfolios.”
Mr Davison joins Legg Mason from a nine-year career at Merrill Lynch and, since 2007, has held the position of lead banking analyst at the bank.
He has also held prior positions at Citigroup’s Smith Barney for two years as an equity research analyst in the financials team and National Australia Bank for more than three years in the M&A division.
Mr Davidson commenced his new position with Legg Mason this week.
