Global institutional trading network Liquidnet has hired former UBS and Deutsche Bank salesman Tristan Baldwin to the role of sales and relationship manager.

Based in Sydney, Mr Baldwin will share responsibility for liaising with asset management firms who work with Liquidnet, reporting to Liquidnet chief James Chatfield.

“Five years ago, Liquidnet built one of Australia’s first institutional-only trading networks to allow managers to directly, anonymously and efficiently trade large blocks of stocks without being penalised by market impact costs associated with large trades,” said Mr Chatfield.

“Tristan’s expertise and insights into the institutional market will be crucial as we further strengthen our role as a major provider of block liquidity for institutions under increased pressure to capture and preserve alpha throughout the whole investment cycle.”

The appointment follows Liquidnet’s report of “record-breaking quarters”, with over $5 billion traded across 10 markets in the Asia Pacifc region during the March and June quarters.
