Mercer has appointed a new leader to its investment operations and implementation management team, Mercer Sentinel.

Former BNP Paribas Securities Services managing director Peter Baker has been appointed to head the Mercer Sentinel team in the Asia-Pacific market.

Mercer said Mr Baker’s appointment comes at a time when investment operations are “front of mind for many institutional investors” following recent regulatory guidance.

“[Mr Baker] is joining us at a time when there are significant opportunities to leverage the services offered by the Sentinel team, particularly with the significant demand for operational risk assessments and custody reviews,” Mercer investment consulting team leader Graeme Mather said.

“As a global team with more than 50 investment operations and custody professionals, [he] will work closely with colleagues around the world to ensure our clients in the Pacific are able to conduct operational due diligence on asset managers and other service providers around the globe,” he said.

Prior to joining Mercer, Mr Baker worked for BNP Paribas Securities Services where he was managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Baker, who will be based in Sydney, will commence his role on 17 November.

Mercer Sentinel is an investment operations and implementation management team within Mercer's investment business.
