Industry super fund Hesta has hired from within its own ranks and appointed a new chief executive to replace outgoing CEO Anne-Marie Corboy.

Hesta has appointed current deputy chief executive Debby Blakey to the role, replacing Ms Corboy when she leaves the position at the end of February 2015.

In a statement released by the industry fund, Hesta chair Angela Emslie said Ms Blakey was “best placed” to lead Hesta into the next phase of the fund’s development.

“Our depth of leadership talent has enabled us to appoint an internal candidate and [Ms Blakey’s] experience as deputy CEO for Hesta, working across all facets of the organisation, gives us the confidence that the CEO transition process will be smooth,” Ms Emslie said.

"Debby has a strong background in superannuation and has demonstrated an engaging and consultative leadership style, which we believe is important for continuing Hesta’s very high standing with members and employers in the health and community services sector.

“Most importantly, [Ms Blakey] demonstrates a passion for ensuring that Hesta members, many of whom are women, have every opportunity to lead a dignified retirement," she said.

Ms Corboy will continue some connection with the fund after being nominated by the Hesta board to the board of Utilities Trust of Australia for a three-year term from 1 March 2015.
