Former Labor MP Candy Broad was appointed in the role last week, according to a statement issued by First Super.
First Super chief executive Bill Watson said: “Increasing the number of independent directors helps add diversity and depth to our fund’s governance.”
“I have no doubt Candy’s interest in improving the lives of working people will translate very well to the governance of an industry super fund, and strongly benefit our members,” Mr Watson said.
Ms Broad served in the Victorian parliament from 1999-2014 with ministerial portfolios including housing, local government, energy and resources, and ports, the statement said.
Ms Broad is also a current director of Women’s Health Victoria and director of Hepburn Community Wind Farm.
