A former chief operating officer of Macquarie's banking and financial services group has joined stockbroking firm OpenMarkets as a non-executive chairman.

Neil Roderick, who will commence as non-executive chairman effective immediately, is the first appointment to OpenMarkets' newly created board.

"We are confident that Neil is going to make an important and positive impact on our company," OpenMarkets chief executive Rick Klink said.

"Neil is a pioneer in the financial services industry and we are excited to have someone of his calibre on our board.

"His intimate knowledge of the industry, broad connections and technical skills will be extremely valuable to OpenMarkets as we continue to expand into wealth management services.

"Most importantly, he has a passion for business innovation and disruption. His track record of applying technology to processes, starting up new lines of business and seeing it through to commercial success are skills which are very apt for the phase we're now in," Mr Klink said.

During his time with Macquarie, Mr Roderick founded the Macquarie Wrap, Professional Series and retail life insurance businesses, and also led the Cash Management Trust.
