Hyperion managing director Tim Samway said Mr Breen’s "considerable financial analysis and trading experience" would complement the existing team.
"Justin is an experienced trader with an impressive track record and we are fortunate to be able to bring him on board," he said.
Mr Breen said Hyperion’s investment philosophy and track record were "key factors" in his move.
"The opportunity to trade global markets and analyse businesses is very appealing, and I’m looking forward to being a part of Hyperion’s collaborative and high-performing team," he said.
During his time as a derivatives trader at ERM Power, Mr Breen was one of three traders responsible for managing a $4 billion energy portfolio.
