Commenting on the appointment, Standard Life Investments head of MAI Robert de Roeck said Mr Marta would help build the company's liability aware business.

"Mathias brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, adding to the already extensive knowledge and experience within the MAI structuring team," Mr Marta said.

"Our mandates draw on a range of sophisticated investment strategies, and I have no doubt that the appointment of Mathias will enhance capabilities and idea generation across our whole Liability Aware offering," Mr de Roeck said.

"The team has seen significant growth over the last 18 months. This, coupled with excellent collaboration across our fund management teams, supports the long-term performance of our mandates."
