According to a statement, Mr Welch has almost two decades’ experience with Australian and global financial markets and will bring seven years’ experience at Fidelity International Australia in covering the healthcare, transport and infrastructure sector.
Richard Hitchens has also joined Alphinity to replaced Shane Kelly as a senior quantitative analyst.
Mr Hitchens makes his move to Alphinity after six years at Credit Suisse Australia and, having been a service provider to Alphinity for years, extends on his existing relationships with both the Australian and global equities teams.
Alphinity lead portfolio manager Johan Carlberg said he was pleased to have two experienced analysts join the team.
“Their appointments and the growth of our team are indicative of our success and continued commitment to achieving superior outcomes for our clients,” he said.
Mr Carlberg also thanked outgoing senior quantitative analyst Mr Kelly, who is relocating to the UK, for his “outstanding contribution”.
“Shane was Alphinity’s first employee, joining the company not long after it started in 2010, and he will also be Alphinity’s first ever staff departure,” Mr Carlberg said.
“We wish him the greatest success in the United Kingdom.”
