The appointment of Nicole Gower to the board of directors was approved by shareholders at UniSuper’s annual general meeting on Monday, replacing Dr Susan Gould, who retired after three terms as a director.
The director of human resources at Macquarie University, Ms Gower has worked in the university sector for 10 years and, prior to this, pursued a career in employment law.
Commenting on the appointment, UniSuper chairman Ian Martin said Ms Gower brought a “diversity of skills and experience” in areas of human resources, law, industrial relations, higher education and governance to the board.
“Nicole brings a sound knowledge of the technicalities of superannuation, having served on the board of directors for two superannuation funds,” Mr Martin said.
“She understands the employment, taxation and trust deed aspects as well as the specific and unique needs of universities and employees at a strategic and practical level.”
Additionally, Stephen Somogyi, Grahame McCulloch, and Neville Kitchin have all been re-elected as directors.
