Zurich-headquartered banking software firm Avaloq has appointed former Deutsche Bank and Westpac executives to lead its Australian office.

In a statement, banking software firm Avaloq announced that Anantha Ayer has been appointed as Avaloq Australia head and general manager.

Directly reporting to him is James Land, who has been appointed managing director for Australia.

Mr Ayer brings nearly two decades’ experience to the Sydney-based role and has led Avaloq’s Singapore operations since 2014, where he oversaw the delivery of back office services to the Asia-Pacific market.

Before Avaloq, he was head of asset and wealth management operations for Asia at Deutsche Bank, where he worked from 2006 to 2014.

Mr Land makes the move to Avaloq from Thomson Reuters where he was head of market development for Asia Pacific and head of market development of buyside for Asia for nearly four years, with experience in innovation and transformation delivery.

Prior to that, he was managing director and head of fixed income at Nomura, after seven years at Westpac from 1999 to 2006 where he held a number of senior roles.

Avaloq group chief executive Jürg Hunziker said the appointments of both Mr Ayer and Mr Land reflected the global fintech firm’s commitment to Australia.

“Australia has become one of the world’s most advanced financial services markets and we see enormous opportunities for Avaloq’s suite of digital solutions in helping our customers become highly efficient, more competitive and more focused on growth,” Mr Hunziker said.
