In a statement, First State Super said that the Ironbark and Platinum Asset Management chair would sit on the First State Super Trustee Corporation’s investment committee, which oversees $90 billion assets under management for 800,000 members.
Mr Cole served as chair of the SAS Trustee Corporation from 2000 to 2007 and then served as chair to Challenger from 2008 to 2014. He is also a former director at the NSW Treasury Corporation.
Commenting on the appointment, First State Super chairman Neil Cochrane said Mr Cole’s background in government and experience in the investment and finance industries was “of immense value to the committee”.
“Michael’s reputation, his record of service and his ongoing commitment to regional communities and education make him an ideal addition to our Investment Committee,” Mr Cochrane said.
“We are looking forward to working with Michael and drawing on his considerable knowledge and experience to guide our investment governance process.”
Mr Cole has been appointed to the role for an initial term of two years, and he joins the investment committee comprised of First State Super board members Neil Cochrane, Jocelyn Furlan, Ralph Kelly, Rosemary Kelly and Mark Lennon.
