In a statement, Pendal – formerly BT Investment Management – said Mr Serhan would begin his new role at the global investment manager in “late 2018”.
Mr Serhan brings over three decades’ experience to the role, including 14 years at research house Morningstar.
He joined Morningstar in 2003 as head of adviser and research, a role he held for six years before a brief 1.5-year stint at Ibbotson Associates Australia as managing director.
Mr Serhan then returned to Morningstar in October 2010 as its chief executive for Australia and New Zealand.
Since 2014, he has held the role of managing director, research strategy, Asia-Pacific at the research house where he is responsible for developing research and commentary on investment themes and trends.
Mr Serhan will report directly to Pendal Australia chief executive Richard Brandweiner, who said he was delighted to appoint Mr Serhan to the role.
“I am confident he will provide the leadership required to help us execute on our sales strategy and contribute to the delivery of our overall business strategy.
“His extensive commercial and technical experience from both an institutional and retail perspective, coupled with a strong understanding of investment markets and products, made him the ideal choice for the role,” Mr Brandweiner said.
Mr Serhan has also worked at Sealcorp and AMP Consulting and currently serves as a board director for CFA Society of Sydney.
