Shaw and Partners has appointed former Royal Bank of Canada trading and execution director to its Sydney headquarters.

The wealth group has hired Paul Johnston as an institutional sales trader.

Mr Johnston was previously at Royal Bank of Canada for 16 years in Sydney, as a director and head of the trading and execution group.

He had also been a client adviser at Austock Brokers and an institutional sales trader at Hartley Poynton.

The appointment has followed other recent additions to Shaw and Partners. The group hired a senior wealth adviser to its Brisbane office last week.

In July, it hired two senior investment advisers to its Perth office and an energy, mining analyst to its research team.
