Michael Gray has been appointed as the interim head of investments, NZ, until October, as AMP continues to explore selling the global equities and fixed-income business.
Mr Gray will be tasked with working with the wider AMP Capital team to incorporate global asset strategy into local portfolios.
He will report to AMP Capital New Zealand managing director and head of clients, Rebekah Swan.
Mr Gray has founded his own investment strategy and governance services boutique, MJ Gray Consulting. Previously, he held a number of roles throughout the Australian and New Zealand funds management industry, most recently as senior portfolio manager with Caliber Investments from 2015 to 2020.
He was an investment manager with Suncorp from 2013 to 2015, and head of investment strategy at CommInsure from 2007 to 2013. He also had portfolio manager roles with ASB Group Investments and JBWere Goldman Sachs.
Ms Swan said the hire is a “key appointment for the New Zealand business”.
“Michael’s experience will be invaluable in the changing shape of the New Zealand business and meeting the needs of our clients,” Ms Swan said.
Mr Gray added he is looking forward to working with the AMP Capital team, having admired its “contribution to the New Zealand industry over the years, particularly in relation to responsible investing”.
