Martin Currie Australia has appointed James Douglas as investment client portfolio manager and Julia Wang as research analyst for large cap equities as the specialist investment manager continues to grow its presence in Australia.
Bowei (Sam) Li has also been appointed as a quantitative analyst after initially joining Martin Currie in January 2021.
“The addition of these experienced professionals demonstrates Martin Currie’s focus on continuing to provide market leading performance and client solutions that deliver benefits such as active ownership and active after-tax management,” said Reece Birtles, chief investment officer at Martin Currie Australia.
With more than nine years of experience in the financial services industry, Mr Douglas joins Martin Currie’s investment team to promote its core suite of Australian and global investment capabilities in the institutional space.
Ms Wang has over three years of experience as an investment analyst and will be responsible for consumer and financial sector research. She was previously employed at KPMG.
Both Mr Douglas and Ms Wang join from Franklin Templeton’s Balanced Equity Management.
Following a previous role as a quantitative developer at Frontier Advisors, Mr Li permanently joins Martin Currie in a newly created role that aims to boost the quantitative resources of its investment team.
“We have an enormous opportunity to build our business in Australia and across Asia and to establish ourselves as a leading active equity specialist,” said Kimon Kouryialas, co-head of global distribution at Martin Currie.
“Today we are very pleased to have a strong team of 20 professionals in Australia and the Australian equity assets under management have grown from $3 to $10 billion in just over a decade,” Mr Kouryialas added.
