Goldman Sachs Asset Management has appointed Craig Balenzuela as MD of its Alternatives Capital Markets & Strategy (ACMS) group in Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Balenzuela joins the firm from Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) where he was responsible for leading business development to institutional accounts in Australia, NZ and internationally across a range of products including real estate, infrastructure, private equity, private debt, liquid alternatives and overlay strategies.
He has almost 25 years of experience and formerly served as MD of institutional business development at K2 Advisors. He also established the Australasian operations of APT Inc.
Goldman Sachs Asset Management said that the ACMS group oversees institutional capital raising and strategy for alternative investments throughout the firm, and in addition, centrally manages capital raising for all alternatives products and portfolio solutions from institutional investors in alternatives.
“Craig brings extensive relationships and alternatives experience that will help further expand our private markets capital raising effort in Australia and New Zealand,” said the firm’s head of Australia and NZ alternatives investing David Gribble.
“As one of the world’s largest alternatives managers, we are excited about delivering the full capabilities of our platform to investors in this region.”
Goldman Sachs Asset Management manages over US$400 billion in alternative assets globally and has been investing in Australia and NZ since 2011.
