The industry super fund has announced a number of new appointments.

Cbus Super has made five new appointments as part of its strategy to bring investments in-house and build out a strong internal investment capability.

Myooran Mahalingam will join the super fund’s investment team as senior portfolio manager, global equities portfolio construction, from November and will have lead responsibility for portfolio construction of its global equities and emerging market equities portfolios.

Mr Mahalingam previously spent over 20 years at MLC, where he has served as portfolio manager for the global equity and global listed property strategies since 2004.

He was formerly an actuarial consultant at Deloitte, and is a Qualified Actuary and a CFA Charterholder. Mr Mahalingam's qualifications include a bachelor of economics with majors in actuarial studies and finance from Macquarie University.

This appointment follows the move of Anna Weickart into the newly created role of senior manager, equities manager research, which Cbus said it established to manage its expanding equities manager research program.

In addition, Jonathon Meagher has joined the infrastructure team as a senior analyst with a focus on transactional activities as well as asset management functions.

He has six years of experience in private markets, most recently with Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, and is currently completing a master of applied finance through the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Adrian Dark has also joined the fund's property team as an associate director. He will focus on the management of its existing portfolio along with new investment opportunities.

Mr Dark has 14 years of experience in the property sector and was previously responsible for leading coverage of the Australian listed property sector at Citi Research. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds a bachelor of commerce (hons) and bachelor of laws from the University of Melbourne.

Rounding out the new appointments, Ashleigh Baxter has been named as investment manager, direct debt. In this role, Cbus said that Ms Baxter will focus on managing existing debt transactions and sourcing new debt deals for the internal Cbus Direct Debt portfolio which has now reached $1 billion.

Ms Baxter has experience across credit and fixed income markets globally and previously spent 10 years in the debt capital markets team at NAB. She holds a bachelor of commerce (finance and accounting) from the University of Sydney.

“The roles support our internalisation and total portfolio approach,” Cbus' deputy CIO, Brett Chatfield, said on the new appointments.

“Our members continue to benefit from our investments internalisation program which exceeds expectations and continues to reduce our investment costs.”

Cbus also recently announced the appointment of a new head of responsible investment.
