Ms Morgan will join ANZ in early 2023 and will be based in Sydney.

The big four bank has announced the appointment of Clare Morgan to lead its commercial division, reporting to CEO Shayne Elliot.

She will join the bank’s group executive committee and will be responsible for ANZ’s commercial business in Australia, where she will lead a team that serves a range of customers including sole proprietors, emerging corporates and private banking.

“Clare is an outstanding leader and I’m confident her business banking experience will be an asset to both ANZ and our customers,” Mr Elliot said.

“This is a significant appointment for ANZ as we continue to transform how we serve our commercial customers through the better use of digital platforms and data,” he continued.

Ms Morgan joins ANZ from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia where she held the role of executive general manager of small business banking.

Moreover, she has extensive experience in financial services across a variety of business and institutional banking, sales and product roles in Australia and the United States.

Her appointment to the bank’s executive committee comes after ANZ in March announced it would split its commercial and retail divisions.

Mr Elliott commented: “While banking small businesses has always been core to what we do, it’s the right time to increase focus on this market, given it is a significant opportunity for ANZ and the progress we have made in other parts of our business.

“Clare joins an experienced team running our major businesses with Antonia Watson leading New Zealand through a period of major change, Maile Carnegie returning Australia Retail to growth and Mark Whelan having transformed Institutional into one of the best-run wholesale banking businesses globally,” he concluded.
