The firm has appointed an experienced business leader, with whom AIA has previously kept a close professional relationship.

Life, health, and wellbeing insurer AIA Australia has appointed George Stavliotis as its new general manager, group partnerships.

Mr Stavliotis joins AIA from insurance agency Swiss Re, where he served as vice-president, client management, a position he held for almost eight years.

According to the firm, he worked closely with AIA Australia during his time in the role.

He additionally spent more than 11 years at Commonwealth Bank’s (CBA) life insurance business, CommInsure. Here, Mr Stavliotis held a number of executive management roles, including in the corporate funds segment and retail risk products.

Notably, in September 2017, CBA announced the sale of CommInsure to AIA Group, with the sale completed in April 2021.

Reporting to AIA chief group insurance officer Anthony Clough, Mr Stavliotis will be responsible for managing AIA’s client development team, expanding the relationships with AIA’s current group partners and leading the business through contract renewal cycles.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Clough said: “George Stavliotis has extensive background in client management, both at reinsurers and as a direct insurer, and brings with him a high level of technical expertise, dating back to his time at CommInsure where he worked across both retail and group.

“George will strengthen our account management expertise. It’s a significant hire for AIA, where George will help deepen our current relationships as we expand our propositions and provide funds with both an uplift in member experience and access to our broad range of value-add services,” he continued.

Mr Stavliotis added: “Group risk continues to provide a strong proposition for all Australians, and I am looking forward to working for a leading life insurer to build on the existing strong partnerships, delivering new ideas and propositions to protect our members.”
