The Reserve Bank of Australia has appointed Dr Meredith Beechey Österholm to the newly created role of head of monetary policy strategy.

According to the bank, this will see Beechey Österholm assist the board in developing monetary policy strategy to support their decision making.

This, the RBA said, comes amid its ongoing transformation of its monetary policy analysis, research, advice and communication.

“Harnessing expertise and collaborating with policy areas across the RBA, the new monetary policy strategy team will ensure sound policy advice is delivered to the board,” it said.

Having joined the RBA last year, Beechey Österholm has previously held influential positions in monetary policy and financial markets.

Before joining the central bank, she served as senior adviser of Sveriges Riksbank’s monetary policy department, in addition to being an economist for the Federal Reserve board’s monetary affairs division.

Moreover, she has a PhD from UC Berkeley and her research on macro-finance, monetary policy and policy communication features across academic journals.

The RBA has also announced the appointment of Nazmiye Guler to head of the Future Hub, reporting to governor Michele Bullock.

“The RBA has been undergoing a major transformation over the last 15 months, and much of that change has been in response to the review of the RBA, internally that work has been led by the Future Hub,” the bank said.

“Much has been achieved and Naz will now lead the team into the next phase as the RBA continues to strengthen our risk and governance frameworks and progressing our culture and leadership ambitions to be an open and dynamic central bank.”

Guler joined the central bank in May 2024 as program director of the Future Hub and brings three decades of experience leading organisational transformation programs across the financial services industry.

Before joining the RBA, she was general manager, enterprise delivery at ASX, and before this, served as director for consulting at PwC.
