ASX has announced the appointment of Dirk McLiesh as its chief risk officer (CRO), effective 3 March.
According to the exchange, McLiesh brings more than 25 years of experience in risk management leadership positions within the financial services industry in Australia and New Zealand to the role.
Most recently, he was the chief risk officer of Westpac New Zealand. During his career, McLiesh also worked for NAB, Bank of New Zealand, Capital One, Microsoft and the Boston Consulting Group.
Now, he is set to report directly to ASX’s managing director and chief executive, Helen Lofthouse, and join the company’s executive leadership team.
The news comes after ASX first announced in November that Leanne McDougall, previously the CRO of Suncorp Bank, joined the company to serve as interim CRO.
It followed the decision of Hamish Treleaven in September confirming he would retire after almost eight years in the role.
According to ASX, McDougall will continue in her current capacity until McLiesh joins the organisation in March and support through a transition period.
Commenting on the appointment, Lofthouse said: “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Dirk as our chief risk officer. He brings extensive experience as a CRO and risk management leader in listed financial services companies and has the right skills to drive the continued strengthening and improvement of our risk culture and risk management approach at ASX.
“We have a clear program of delivery on risk culture as part of our five-year strategy, and we’re making good progress.”
Lofthouse additionally thanked McDougall for her time as interim CRO.
“In a short space of time, Leanne has made a positive impact at ASX and I’d like to thank her for her contribution.”
