The AFA has awarded Brad Fox Rising Star of the Year and launched a new gong, the AFA Student of the Year Award.

Total Financial Solutions adviser Brad Fox has been rewarded the 2008 Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) Rising Star of the Year Award, at AFA's National Conference in Melbourne.

Fox's holistic advice model, development and expansion of a new advice business, and outstanding commitment to the community and industry, such as his role as GenXt national chair, lead the judging panel to confirm the award, AFA chief executive Richard Klipin said.

The Rising Star of the Year Award recognises the best new adviser talent and someone who has excelled in advice provision, business acumen, and community and industry service.

"This award is about promoting best practice, so it is fundamental to our philosophy that we award and acknowledge the most talented new entrants to our profession," Klipin said.

Also announced at the conference was the addition of the AFA student of the Year Award, to recognise top-performing students within the advice industry.

AMP corporate super employee Jo Bean from Tasmania took out the award yesterday.

"Given the AFA's push into education, it seemed a logical fit to recognise the best students studying to qualify as financial advisers," Klipin said.

"Once AFA's Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner (FChFP) course is in full swing next year, this award will recognise the achievements of our FChFP-accredited participants."
