AIG Life appoints Craig Extrem national manager of client markets for its group insurance business.

Tower Australia's Craig Extrem will join AIG Life as national manager of client markets for the group insurance division, AIG Life announced yesterday afternoon.

Extrem will be responsible for managing the company's client and business development functions within its group insurance business and takes over from Damien Mu, who was promoted to AIG Life head of group insurance in April 2008.

"In the past, Craig's role managed the client development team which worked with our existing clients, whereas now it will also encompass the business development team which works on creating new business opportunities," Mu said.

"We are delighted that Craig has chosen to join our team at a time when we are enjoying the most extensive growth and success in our history."

Extrem said: "The performance of the [AIG Life] group life team has been the envy of many over recent times and I have no doubt that together we will be in a position to deliver even stronger outcomes to the market."

Based in AIG Life's Sydney office, Extrem will take up his position on 25 May.

He joins AIG Life from Tower Australia where he has been head of sales for the group risk division since April 2006. He has also held senior group risk sales and business development roles with Prefsure, Lumley Life and Colonial.

According to Plan for Life research regarding inflows into the life insurance market released this week, AIG Life boasted the biggest increase of 20 per cent.
