ANZ has appointed Alex Thursby to group managing director Asia Pacific, reporting directly to chief executive John McFarlane.
The new role will consolidate the ANZ Asia Pacific businesses and lead the group's strategic push into Asia.
Thursby is currently senior managing director and group head of corporate and institutional client relationships of wholesale banking at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.
He has been with Standard Chartered Bank 21 years working in Hong Kong, London, Indonesia, Singapore and the UAE.
Earlier this month, ANZ announced McFarlane's successor to be Michael Smith, the head of Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation's Asian banking operations. He will take over the group in October with a $9 million sign on fee.
McFarlane who has headed the bank for ten years will depart three months earlier than planned.
