Asteron is renewing its focus on income protection, previously the company's weaker side.

New Asteron executive manager Jordan Hawke has unveiled a number of new products and enhancements to the firm's insurance offering .

Hawke said in 2008 the company would renew its focus on income protection, which he described as the weaker side of Asteron's insurance products.

The enhancements include a new 10 Hour Plus feature designed to recognise the need for an insured individual to return to work gradually.

Under the model, a severe disability policyholder can work up to 10 hours a week and still receive full benefits with no offset.

The new initiative applies across the range of Asteron's Lifeguard income protection products, including Income Advantage, Income Protector and Income Shield, all of which offer varying degrees of cover.

Asteron also launched Recovery Booster, which allows 100 per cent of income to be covered for up to two years if the claim is a result of a listed crisis event, of which there are 30.

Policyholders are also able to claim more than once on this type of insurance, such as may be required in the instance of multiple strokes.

Asteron also announced it would be developing an electronic processing solution, which was well under way for delivery later in the year.
