Chris Saunders has been appointed head of financial planning at Wilson HTM Investment Group.

Former Premium Wealth Management (Premium) chief executive Chris Saunders has been appointed by Wilson HTM Investment Group as the new head of its financial planning division.

Saunders, who begins in the role on 12 April, will report to Alex Ihlenfeldt who heads the Wilson HTM Wealth Management business.

"I am delighted to be joining Wilson HTM's Wealth Management team at a time when there are substantial opportunities emerging in the direct equity investing space," Saunders said.

"Wilson HTM has established a very solid platform to grow this business along with an enviable performance track record."

Ihlenfeldt said Saunders' background and experience would add substantially to the team.

"With ten years of experience working with some of Australia's leading independent financial advisers and dealer groups, as well as funds management experience he brings a strong set of skills to assist us in implementing our strategic plans for this business."

Saunders was made redundant from Premium in January this year after the dealer group abolished the chief executive role following a company review.

Premium selected the former rugby union player in March 2008.

Prior to joining Premium, Saunders held head roles at Mariner Financial, Zurich Financial Services and Citigroup.
