The FPA is a step closer to making a decision on who will provide PI insurance to its members.

The FPA is close to selecting insurance underwriters to join its professional indemnity (PI) service, with a final list of names expected before the end of the month.

The association is in the process of compiling applications from insurance underwriters including Vero, Dual and Dexta.

"Applications have been received and are being tested for the underwriting panel now," FPA general manger of professionalism Deen Sanders said.

Although only a handful of insurers currently provide PI insurance, the list has been whittled down further due to a lack of interest, Sanders said.

"It will be around about four (on the panel), and won't be every underwriter because frankly not everyone has shown a willingness to engage in the sort of service we're after for members," he said.

The final decision as to which companies will be selected for the panel is expected within the next 10 days, Sanders said.

Earlier this month, the FPA named Jardine Lloyd Thompson as the broker for its new professional indemnity "Pro PI" service.

The FPA's new PI service has been implemented to improve insurance options for members and strengthen the tripartite relationship between underwriter, broker and the FPA.
