Investment and Financial Services Association (IFSA) deputy chief executive John O'Shaughnessy will leave his post next year, following six years with the association.
O'Shaughnessy said much had been achieved during his time at IFSA.
"It has been my pleasure and great privilege to work with such a capable and effective team and an engaged membership," he said
Commenting on O'Shaughnessy's decision to depart the association, IFSA chief executive John Brogden said: "John [O'Shaughnessy] has been a highly effective and capable deputy at IFSA with a vast wealth of institutional knowledge and experience.
"We wish him all the best and look forward to continuing to work with him until his departure."
It is understood there will be further operational reviews due to O'Shaughnessy's decision to leave.
In the meantime IFSA has appointed a number of new senior policy managers including Andrew Bragg, James Bond and Alex Ford.
