IOOF chief investment officer Steve Merlicek will take over Tony Hodges' responsibilities.

IOOF head of investments Tony Hodges has decided to retire following 15 years in the role and 24 years with the business.

Responsible for managing and building IOOF's investment management capabilities, Hodges will maintain his ties with the business as IOOF Investment Committee chairman.

He will also sit as a non-executive director on a variety of subsidiary boards, including IOOF Global One, IOOF Life, IOOF Limited and IOOF Investment Management Limited.

IOOF chief investment officer Steve Merlicek, who resigned as Telstra Super's chief investment officer in September 2009, will take on Hodges' day-to-day responsibilities permanently, an IOOF spokesperson said.

In January this year, IOOF also hired Telstra Super's head of domestic equities Dan Farmer as its Australian equities portfolio manager.
