Gunawan will promote Legg Mason's products and affiliate asset managers to key dealer groups and advisers that use retail platforms.
She will be based in Sydney and will primarily service the New South Wales market.
Gunawan will also support dealer groups and advisers across Australia as required.
"Lia has an in-depth knowledge of the platform and dealer group markets and has held key retail account relationships across a number of organisations," Legg Mason Australian business head Annalisa Clark said.

Gunawan joins Legg Mason from property group Becton and brings with her 12 years of experience in servicing platform investors.
She has also worked at BT Financial Group, Aviva and ABN Amro.
