Morgan Stanley Smith Barney has recruited more advisers from Macquarie Private Wealth.

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney (MSSB) has appointed six more senior financial advisers, formerly with Macquarie Private Wealth, to its Australian wealth management business in the past few months.

David Basha, Shannon Briggs and Laura Purbrick had joined MSSB in Sydney, while James O'Kane, Ian Elks and Brett Boardman had joined MSSB in Brisbane, a spokesperson for the group confirmed.

Meanwhile, Dominic Hopkins, formerly with Wilson HTM, and Tim Harrington, formerly with Ord Minnett, have also joined MSSB in Brisbane as senior financial advisers.

An MSSB spokesperson said the group, which comprised 140 advisers in September last year and which had hoped at the time to grow that number to over 180 within 12 months, had already increased its network to around 190 advisers in less than six months.

"MSSB offers advisers a great platform for them to do business and provide the best possible service for their clients, and this commitment to grow the business and invest in developing the best platform has been instrumental in the many high-quality advisers joining the firm recently," the spokesperson said.

In September last year, also joining MSSB in Sydney from Macquarie Private Wealth were Mark O'Sullivan, Chris Watson and James Gosnell.

The spokesperson said MSSB wanted to create a top-tier wealth management business in Australia and intended to hire more high-quality advisers.

A Macquarie Private Wealth spokesperson said the business did not comment on individual departures, but the group had appointed 10 new advisers to the business since August last year.
